Constructions: Buildings in Arizona by Alfred Newman Beadle
Constructions has been out of print for over 15 years, but now, due to persistent demand, Gnosis, Ltd. has published a second edition, revised, with an updated chronology and bibliography, and a new Foreword.
Using the vocabulary of glass and steel, Alfred Newman Beadle (1927-1998) transformed the desert with his own brand of Modernism for over 40 years. His notable achievements include high rise buildings, multiple-family housing and apartment complexes, single family homes and commercial office structures, warehouses and retail buildings.

Blaine Drake: 40 Years Of Architecture in Arizona
Blaine Drake studied architecture at UC Berkley before joining Frank Lloyd Wright’s office (1933 – 1941). After war service (1942 – 1945), he practiced architecture in Phoenix for forty years. He was a designer of commercial and institutional buildings, but is best known for his residential work, where he was responsible for about two hundred houses as well as apartment complexes. His approach was much influenced by his time with Wright, and his residential designs might be called late Usonian. Drake was one of the very few to come out of Wright’s office to achieve significant careers of their own, and this publication testifies to his independent talent.

Wright in Arizona:
The Early Work of
Pedro E. Guerrero
Pedro Guerrero was by no means the first to photograph buildings by Frank Lloyd Wright but he was arguably the most insightful. Included here are ten images of the first state of Taliesin West (1940), many not published previously, which record aspects of the project now lost through successive rebuilding. In addition, there are ten images of the Pauson House (1941), most seen here for only the second time, and which are the only surviving evidence of this masterwork (destroyed by fire, 1943). Guerrero’s long career began with these images and founded his reputation as one of America’s premier architectural photographers.
